Glorup near Nyborg

the 5th July 1863.

Sir!

Yesterday I received Your very agreable letter, and I hasten to express my bests thanks for it to You. It is a great honour and pleasure to me to see my name united to those of so many eminent men, who have proposed to themselves the beautiful task of raising a national mnument to the greates poet of al nations, but I take the liberty of asking You to inform me of what more I have to do than to give my name, if for instance You wish me to make / the matter publisly known in my nation country, or if every author, who signs his name is expected to present some little work on occasion of the festival of the 23rd of April next. I regret very much, that my means don't permit me to subscribe for a sum of money.

I would be most happy, if you would still once honour me with some explanatory words. I have the honour to be, Sir

Your obedient servant

Hans Christian Andersen

to G. Linnæus Banks Esq.
