1 July

The linguist Rasmus Nyerup prints a prose draft by HCA ("Fragment af en Reise fra Roeskilde til Helsingør (Fragment of a Journey from Roskilde to Elsinore)) in Nyeste Skilderi af Kjøbenhavn (Newest Depictions of Copenhagen). It was an excerpt of a letter from HCA to Rasmus Nyerup.

July

After walking from Elsinore to Copenhagen (to visit the Wulff and the Collin families), HCA wrote his first nature poem "Aftenen" ("The Evening"), where his humour shines through for the first time.

August

The grant for HCA's education from the fund ad usus publicos is extended by two years.

September

HCA writes the poem "Det Døende Barn" (The Dying Child) whilst under the influence of his own lamentable circumstances at the Meislings'. HCA recites the poem for the German-born Ludolph Schley, who was in Elsinore during this year. Schley was a merchant and translator of Swedish literature to German (he had travelled quite a bit in Sweden). Schley moved on from Elsinore to Libau, where he founded his own merchant's company.
