Description of this motif: "God" is the God of christianity, which in the eyes of Andersen is the God of all people. Andersen's religious were not dogmatic, and he never accepted the dogma of the trinity; God is for Andersen one, and he never speaks of the Holy Ghost. He considered Jesus to be a chosen man.
Example :
"You have good taste, Larsen," said the noble family, "but that is a gift from our Lord, not from yourself!"
Comment on this quote: God is mentioned, and the words themselves express a pious attitude. However, the sentence shall only keep the gardener down; "the noble family" doesn't want him to think to much of himself. So the "religious" substance is vanishing.
