Description of this motif: The Flood was God's way of exterminating mankind, which had turned out evil. The righteous Noah was chosen by God. He should survive and thus continuing mankind. God told Noah about the come of the Flood and how Noah should build the ark and bring his wife, his sons (Sem, Kam and Jafet), his daughters in law and couples of animals on board in order to survive the Flood. The Flood was rain – for forty days and nights – that drowned everyone not on board the ark. Cf. Genesis 6–8.
