The Academy.

Edmund Gosse: On April 2 last was Hans Christian Andersen's seventieth birthday. We understand that preparations had been made for extensive festivities both at Copenhagen and at odense, the poet's birth-place, of which we hope to be able to give full particulars next week. Andersen's health apperars to be in great mesuer restored. The Academy, Apr. 10, 1875.

The 'creation' of the season took place on Tuesday, when 'Les Contes d'Andersen', described as a fairy opera, with the poem by Maître Raoul Gunsbourg and music from Grieg, delighted a crowded an veery fashionable audience.
