Mr. Marcus Spring

Dear Sir

It is a long time since I heard from you and your wife, but I am convinced that I have been in your kind remembrance, and that my countryman, Mr. Robert Watt, editor of a daily paper in Copenhagen, who brings you these lines, will be able to tell me many pleasant things from my American friends when he, towards new year, again shall be in Denmark.

From the three Danes that you know particularly well and made friends with, Frederikke Bremer, Jette Wulff and H. C. Andersen, I am the only one left. You will know my latest work, the American edition of my collected works. I have at least asked the editors to send you a copy.

It is the first time Mr. Robert Watt is visiting America, and he is only going to stay a few months there; he is editor of "Dagens Nyheder" / he has trevelled very much and understands to relate what he has seen and gone through. I shall be very glad to read his discriptions of your new and mighty country. I am conviced that you will do for him what you can and I hope that you will find he es a talented and amiable coutryman of

your affectionate friend

H. C. A.
