Dear friend:

About a week ago I sent you, done into English, a new story, "The Great Grandfather," written for Riverside Magazine. Today I send you an entirely new fairy tale which may perhaps be considered as one of my best. I am sending it to you in Danish, and hope that the handwriting is legible. You will see to it that this fairy tale is well translated. Like "The Great Grandfather," it will not appear in Denmark until it has come out in your Magazine, where it will appear soon. Let me know in your next letter, if you can, when The Story of My Life will have been published complete. I presume about Christmas time, or will it not be until the beginning of 1871?

Thank you once more for the sweet and lively Stories from M y Attic. Only this brief letter today, which accompanies the fairy tale, and which brings my heartiest greetings to you and yours, as well as to the kind publishers of my writings.

your much devoted

H. C. ANDERSEN

Lad mig i Deres nste Brev erfare, om De kan, naar mit Livs Eventyr, i sin Heelhed, udkommer; jeg antager ved Juletid, eller skeer .det frst i 1871?
